Many have asked me this question ?
And I have never tried to remember that moment. However I would like to remember the same now and share it with one and all.
To be frank it was a series of mixed emotions.
I was told that students usually get really home sick and very upset once they land in their host country. That was something i never wanted to do. All i wanted to be was happy and start my new journey with a bang. I wanted to face all the hurdles with a smile (Something that is extremely impossible). Today if i look back, I feel that I have achieved what i wished for. I tried hard not be homesick. I was able to face every hurdle with help of my room mate who is my one and only guardian in Australia. It is important to be able to face an independent life.
A friend of mine once told me that the best way to be able to conquer home sickness is to carry some kind of perfume, or something special from home that can help you be constantly with home. Many of us move away from home for the first time. Including me, I have never ever lived away from my parents for more than 2 weeks. So Australia has been the longest ever. I have never done any household chores when I was back in India. I actually learnt everything here in Brisbane. It is hard, but not difficult. One can get rid of homesickness very easily if you are in contact with your loved ones constantly. It is quite easy to call back home over the internet everyday, chat with friends and make yourself comfortable.
The aura of the new land is different. The aroma of the new land is different. Everything about the new land is different. But things fall into place when you try to relate to things back home. I found Brisbane very much similar to Bangalore. So it was not so difficult for me to adjust to the place. Be it the atmosphere, the weather and the roads, the fly overs. It just reminds of just another lane in Bangalore. Ofcourse one cant forget the discipline and cleanliness and less crowd on the Road when compared to India. Otherwise it is a homely place.
It is very important to make new friends, if you are not coming with one. It is important to MINGLE with people. One cannot survive here if you cannot boldly mingle with everyone. It is important to be able to travel alone without any hesitation at any time of the day or any time of the night. It is pretty difficult for girls, but surprisingly Indian girls are a little bold compared to the aussies when it comes to working in the night or travelling in the night.
It is important to keep good contacts in the new land and also to be able to successfully complete studies and have fun, loads of fun. Remember that you have come to a new land to study and also to have a new experience. It is important to know that you need to be happy and jolly to be able to survive and lead a comfortable life.
I think with that funda in mind i have been able to survive till now. It is pretty easy if you can tune your brain accordingly. Trust me it is not hard. A little bit of patience will do the magic. NO PANIC and NO HESITATION. It is all easy . BE COOL HEADED and MANAGE EVERYTHING SMOOTHLY.
